Best MMA Supplements

Filed under: Tips — Michael @ 3:34 am

MMA is a very demanding sport on your body! Many people workout every single day of the week, cardio/sparring one day, lifting another. As a Mixed Martial Arts athlete it is important to keep your body nourished and healthy to perform at your maximum potential. Enough of this nonsense, lets get down to the good stuff.

Whey Protein

Whey Protein is the most important supplement for recovery and muscle building. Many times you cannot finish workouts, or you are sore for the next workout. This is probably because you did not get enough protein. Luckily whey protein has the highest biological value of any protein, and also has an excellent amino acid makeup which means that it will absorb the protein more efficiently. Whey Protein will help you recover faster which in return would equal better workouts and quicker gains! You can find out how much protein you should be getting with this nifty protein calculator.

Creatine

Creatine is a compound that is found naturally in our body and in foods such as fish and steak. What Creatine does is create more ATP (energy) in the body, which in return means longer workouts. This is excellent for MMA because your training would last longer and at a higher energy rate, which would mean better strength gains and an improvement in your overall game! BCAA’s

BCAA’s are three types of amino acids. These amino acids can’t be made by our body alone, so instead we have to acquire BCAA’s via food or supplementation. BCAA’s are crucial because if your BCAA levels during a workout are low, then your body will make up for this by breaking down your muscle tissue to get the BCAA’s it needs.

Things that deplete your BCAA’s the most:

  • Cardiovascular workouts
  • Intense Workouts
  • Lowered calories (trying to make weight for a MMA fight)

Supplementing with BCAA’s during any of these activities would be crucial to a longer and more stronger workout. BCAA’s are also known to help replenish Glutamine, which I will discuss below.

Glutamine

Glutamine is definitely an essential must for MMA. Whether in an MMA fight or just working out glutamine plays a vital role. Glutamine makes up about half of the amino acids in our muscle tissue. After we work out Glutamine levels deplete which result in lowered strength gains and poorer recovery. If you hadn’t supplemented with Glutamine afterwards you might no recover properly and probably would not workout at your full potential during the next session. Glutamine is vital as a post workout supplement to replenish your glutamine levels which in return would equal quicker recoveries and better strength gains.

Multivitamins

Let alone for MMA, multivitamins are essential for everybody. Multivitamins help our bodies recieve a complex array of vital nutrients. Being mal nourished or being deficient in a certain nutrient, would cause you not to perform at your fullest potential. Multivitamins help you recieve all of the nutrients that you are not getting from the food you eat. Lets just say that it is impossible to eat enough food, to get the amount of nutrients in a multivitamin in a day. Bottom line is, Multivitamins are a must, and without them you would just not be living or training at your full potential!

Fish Oil

Fish Oil is very important to supplement into your diet, whether you are taking mma or not, fish oil would definitely benefit you! Fish Oil definitely has it’s positives for MMA. Fish Oil can increase brain power which would mean more concentration and increased creativity, which in return would help you in a MMA Fight. With this increased concentration, who knows, you might even pull a flying armbar on your next opponent :) .

Fish oil is also very benefical to MMA because it improves cholesterol levels. Fish Oil takes away the bad cholesterol and gives you more of the good cholesterol. This can be very benefical to your heart. A healthy heart is very important for such a demanding sport as MMA.

Fish Oil can also reduce inflammatory pain. Many MMA fighters know well too much about pain, well fish oil can reduce pain from arthritis and other pain causing problems.

These are only some of the benefits of fish oil, fish oil will definitely improve your overall health. You can also buy fish oil online from the convenience of your home!

  2. Great info here. I put the website that I usually visit in the box above to help other guys out too. Also, just my two cents but have you tried the Brawl line of products? I am on my second Revolt Stack and my performance has increased drastically! I can honestly say it is the one product line that is not full of sh|t and actually performs man. I am a fighter so I can’t just go out there and “test” products because the wrong stuff can screw you up and you can lose!

Anyway, I don’t think you can get the product anywhere except on their website at brawlnutrition.com Just curious if you had used them cause I know they are pretty new.

    Awesome article though!

  3. Hi I’m Hunter from Atlanta’s Team X3. We’ve also used Brawl for our guys and they have experienced great results, or so they tell me. We are happy with this line too.
